“Describe the ups and downs you have encountered to date in your inquiry. Specifically, when you were frustrated or struggling in your inquiry, what did you do to address the situation?”
As you may know, my question for Zip this year is, what components make a realistic character? During the time I have been researching this question, one thing I struggled with was finding consistent information. None of the websites had the same technique! I realized that the problem simply was, making a character involves your imagination and everyone had their own style of creating a character. Essentially, all of the websites did have the same basic information, such as a character needs this and that, but the ways you would get to actually creating those ‘this and that’s’ were all very different. In the end, I decided to gather what basic information I could, and actually go about making my own character, so I could find a process that suits me.
The other challenge I’m currently facing is creating my own characters. I thought it would be quite simple, but to create detailed and vivid characters, you need to put a lot of thought into them. Backstory, appearance, personality and even their walking style are things you have to consider when making a character, and it’s a lot more challenging than I expected. It’s not incredibly difficult, but it is time consuming, so I decided to continuously work on my characters for the duration of Zip. The process is proving to be a slight challenge, but it’s definitely a lot of fun!
